Biweekly Railroad Service Report Update – 3/12/15

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) published the 20th and 21st weekly service report updates for Class 1 railroads spanning data acquired from February 22nd to March 7th. Overall, ethanol and grain transportation speeds declined slightly from recent weeks while weekly held car figures were mixed. Ethanol Transportation: • Average train speeds for ethanol transportation declined to a 19 week low during the week ending February 28th and remained flat during the week ending March 7th. March 7th ethanol train speeds of 20.1 MPH were 3.7% lower than the previous 20 week average ethanol train speeds. Weekly Average Train Speed-Ethanol - Mar 12 • Ethanol cars held 48-120 hours increased to an eight week high during the week ending February 28th before declining towards average levels during the week ending March 7th. March 7th ethanol cars held 48-120 hours remain 7.1% higher than the previous 20 week average ethanol cars held 48-120 hours. Weekly Cars Held 48-120 Hours-Ethanol - Mar 12 • Ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours increased to an eight week high during the week ending March 7th. March 7th ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours were 12.6% higher than the previous 20 week average ethanol cars held longer than 120 hours. Weekly Cars Held Greater Than 120 Hours-Ethanol - Mar 12 Grain Transportation: • Average train speeds for grain transportation declined to a ten week low during the week ending February 28th prior to increasing slightly during the week ending March 7th. March 7th grain train speeds of 21.0 MPH were equal to the previous 20 week average grain train speeds. Weekly Average Train Speed-Grain - Mar 12 • Grain cars held 48-120 hours increased to an eight week high during the week ending February 28th before declining below average levels during the week ending March 7th. March 7th grain cars held 48-120 hours were 4.3% lower than the previous 20 week average grain cars held 48-120 hours. Weekly Cars Held 48-120 Hours-Grain - Mar 12 • Grain cars held longer than 120 hours declined slightly during the weeks ending February 28th and March 7th, but remain 5.0% above the previous 20 week average grain cars held longer than 120 hours.
