Crop Progress Update – 6/22/20

According to the USDA, the current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition increased slightly from the previous week, finishing above analyst expectations, however the current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition declined from the previous week, finishing slightly below analyst expectations. Corn: Corn silking as of the week ending Jun 21st was two percent completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of one percent completed and equal to the five year average pace of two percent completed. 72% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 21st, up one percent from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished above analyst expectations of 70%. Five percent of the current corn crop was identified as very poor or poor, unchanged from the previous week. Soybeans: Soybean plantings as of the week ending Jun 21st were 96% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 83% completed and the five year average pace of 93% completed. Soybean planting progress finished slightly below average analyst expectations of 97% completed, however. Soybean emergence as of the week ending Jun 21st was 89% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 66% completed and the five year average pace of 85% completed. Soybean blooming as of the week ending Jun 21st was five percent completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of one percent completed and equal to the five year average pace of five percent completed. 70% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 21st, down two percent from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition was slightly below analyst expectations of 71%. Five percent of the current soybean crop was identified as very poor or poor, up one percent from the previous week.
