Chinese Dairy Imports Update – Jun ’16

Executive Summary Chinese dairy import figures provided by GTIS were recently updated with values spanning through May ’16. Highlights from the updated report include: • Total Chinese dairy import volumes increased on a YOY basis for the tenth consecutive month during May ‘16, finishing up 33.9% to a new record high figure for the month of May. • Chinese dairy import volumes originating from within the EU-28 increased to a new monthly record high for the third consecutive month during May ’16, finishing up 66.4% YOY. • May ’16 Chinese dairy imports excluding whole milk powder and skim milk powder remained particularly strong, finishing up 47.8% YOY to a new record high for the month of May. Additional Report Details According to GTIS, May ’16 total Chinese dairy import volumes increased 9.8% MOM on a daily average basis and 33.9% YOY, finishing at a record high level for the month of May. Total Chinese dairy import volumes have increased YOY for ten consecutive months through May. Total Chinese dairy import volumes originating from within the EU-28 remained particularly strong, increasing to a new monthly record high for the third consecutive month during May ’16, finishing 66.4% higher on a YOY basis. May ’16 Chinese whole milk powder (WMP) import volumes increased 5.7% MOM on a daily average basis and 17.5% YOY to the third highest figure on record for the month of May however skim milk powder (SMP) import volumes declined 3.0% MOM on a daily average basis and 13.2% YOY to a three year May low. May ’16 Chinese dairy imports excluding WMP and SMP remained particularly strong, increasing by 47.8% YOY and finishing at a new record high for the month of May.
