Crop Progress Update – 6/15/20

According to the USDA, corn and soybean emergence remained ahead of five year average levels during the week ending Jun 14th. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition declined from the previous week, finishing below analyst expectations, however the current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition was unchanged from the previous week, finishing consistent with analyst expectations. Corn: Corn emergence as of the week ending Jun 14th was 95% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 74% completed and the five year average pace of 92% completed. An additional six percent of the total U.S. corn crop emerged during the week ending Jun 14th. Weekly increases in corn emergence on a percentage basis were led by New Jersey, followed by North Dakota, Pennsylvania and Maryland. 71% of the current corn crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 14th, down four percent from the previous week. The current corn crop identified to be in good or excellent condition finished below analyst expectations of 75%. Five percent of the current corn crop was identified as very poor or poor, up one percent from the previous week. Soybeans: Soybean plantings as of the week ending Jun 14th were 93% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 72% completed and the five year average pace of 88% completed. Soybean planting progress finished slightly below average analyst expectations of 94% completed, however. An additional seven percent of the total U.S. soybean crop was planted during the week ending Jun 14th. Weekly increases in soybean plantings on a percentage basis were led by New York, followed by North Dakota, Missouri and Virginia. Soybean emergence as of the week ending Jun 14th was 81% completed, finishing ahead of last year’s pace of 49% completed and the five year average pace of 75% completed. 72% of the current soybean crop was identified to be in good or excellent condition as of the week ending Jun 14th, unchanged from the previous week. The current soybean crop identified to be in good or excellent condition was consistent with analyst expectations. Just four percent of the current soybean crop was identified as very poor or poor, also unchanged from the previous week.
